How many volts does a piezo igniter produce?

Due to piezo-electric effect, a high voltage is generated in the range of 800 volts. The lighter is wired in such a way that this whole voltage is applied in a small region of air gap between two metallic points.

Why is my piezo igniter not producing a spark?

I then returned to redo the process, but then the piezo igniter was not producing a spark. Coincidentally, when the plumber was here a few weeks earlier installing gas line, he too had a bit of difficulty getting the piezo to ignite the pilot.

How does a piezo electric ignitor work on a push button Grill?

This type of ignitor is used on push button cigarette lighters, push button grills, and many other devices. It functions differently than a flint ignitor. Piezo electrical ignition creates enough energy that a small hammer strikes an object within the device. When this object is struck, it creates voltage.

How do you replace a piezo igniter in a heater?

Check the igniter for any visible cracks or breaks. If any visible cracks or breaks are present, replace the piezo igniter. Connect the piezo igniter to the electrode (figure 3), holding the electrode about ¼” to ½” away from the shell of the heater with the insulated pliers depress the piezo igniter.

What can I use to fill the gap in a piezo ignition?

Try filling the gap with silicone filler… Electrical conductivity. Silicones stay insulating over and are unaffected by water. These qualities make them particularly suitable for electrical equipment. Silicone technologies keep components securely in place.

What’s the best way to repair a piezo ignition?

You can get a tape called “Bi Seal”…no it’s not a gay seal 😉 It’s a high voltage self vulcanising tape that stretches and binds on it self. Cut a length, pull off the liner and wrap it tight around the offending part, it vulcanises on itself. Damn fine tape!

What makes piezo electric lighters so dependable?

The durability of this material makes such lighters long lasting and very dependable. Piezo electricity does not utilize electrical connections, although there are some devices that use wires in order to direct the spark to a certain location.
