Why did my power awning on my RV stop working?
In this video, I figure out and repair the problem that caused my Dometic 9100 RV power awning to stop working. Turns out the switch contacts became dirty enough to cut off power to the motor. I disassemble the 12 volts 40 amp switch, clean the contacts with a fiberglass burnishing pen renew the dielectric grease, reinstall and test.
What do you need to know about power awnings?
This told me the motor and wiring to the awning was good. I disassembled the control panel and swapped the slide out room switch (it uses the same switch) with the power awning switch, and the fault swapped as well.
How do you repair a power awning switch?
I washed out the old grease and with a fiberglass burnishing tool cleaned the copper contacts and added new grease. I then reassembled the switch, it only snaps together and reinstalled it into the control panel. Sure enough, I was back in business with the power awning switch working as good as new!

What to do if your Solera power awning stops working?
If you need a replacement motor then you will use the Solera Power Awning Replacement Motor # LC266149. The best way to test is to remove the head housing and use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check the wires going into the motor for power. If you have power going into the motor when you press the switch then you know that the motor is bad.

Remove the plastic covers from both ends of the awning and look for any damaged bearings or broken gears on the motor side. If you tried connecting 12V directly to the motor during the electrical checks and nothing happened your motor is dead. Or if like mine, it makes a lot of noise and moves very slowly, it needs to be replaced.
